Altona Primary School Library.

Design and construct delivery of a prefabricated school library at Altona Primary School, VIC on behalf of the Victorian Department of Education and Training.

Intended to stretch the boundaries of traditional modular school buildings the project features 6m high ceilings, full height facades and sharply pitched roof forms.

Constructed in just 6 weeks for the Victorian School Building Authority’s Permanent Modular School Buildings Program, ARKit designed and built a new library and multipurpose building for Altona Primary School. Delivered using ARKit’s flexible panelised building system, ARKit utilised a highly individualised design response to develop a unique learning facility that seamlessly reflects the building’s intended use and site location.

The customised design combines reading nooks and window seats combined with flexible open plan areas, high ceilings and natural light to create a generous and inviting new space. The new building combines a high-performance thermal envelope with a closely designed site specific response to deliver a sustainable building that maximises the benefits of prefabrication through the flexibility of panelised construction.

Project value: $905,000 (excl GST) including design, consultant and authority fees, factory and site based construction. Form of Contract: AS2124. Completion Date: January 2018. Factory based construction = 6 weeks.
