Beaumaris North Primary School.

The brief for this project comprised the removal of existing buildings and creation of a new, custom designed teaching and learning facility. The building includes two classrooms, a multipurpose space with outdoor learning spaces, wellbeing room, and teacher’s workspace.

Developed in close consultation with the school, the building includes a range of indoor and outdoor spaces intended to engage with children whilst remaining practical for teaching and learning.

The staff workspace has been designed to create opportunities for passive surveillance of adjoining play spaces. The wellbeing room is designed to provide visual and acoustic privacy for students.

With a strong art focus at the school, the work of mathematical Dutch artist Maurits Cornelis Escher was drawn upon as inspiration of the building form. A large internal wall panel, framed around windows, was used to tell a story of infinite evolution through the use of pictures which transform into geometric shapes. Design and construction of the project was completed in 7 months.

This project won the Education & Research category in the Sustainability Awards 2019.
